A photographer all my life, I started early, studied at RMIT and have worked as a commercial photographer for over 30 years. The time has passed in a flash and I still love it with a passion.
After working a few years as an assistant, I established a profitable business shooting celebrities from stage and screen for the ABC, Crawford Productions, Channel 7 and various television magazines. I learnt much about handling “stars” from people such as Barry Humphries, who could cut a young photographer down with one quick lash of his tongue! During those years I photographed almost every international star that came to town, sometimes twice, once for one magazine, then for another. I photographed, amongst others, Dudley Moore, Deborah Kerr, Susanna York, George Hamilton, The Two Ronnies, The Jacksons, Iggy Pop and Billy Joel.
I then decided fashion was my passion and over the next few years I moved up through the fashion industry, shooting for clients such as, The Australian Wool Corporation, Just Jeans, Ojay, Holeproof, Patons, Cleckheaton and for 10 years I held the Myer fashion account shooting press ads and catalogues.
I started a large studio in South Melbourne and began shooting high end advertising campaigns for St Kilda Road advertising agencies as well as editorials for Magazines as diverse as Vogue Living and New Idea. I also specialized in shooting jewellery on 10x8 inch film.
Over the ensuing years, I have worked with many talented graphic designers involving photography for corporate reports etc. My weeks these days can be as diverse as shooting in a gold mine in outback Western Australia one week and fashion in the studio the next. I also shoot room sets built in the studio for kitchen appliances, curtains, blinds and furniture.
One of my other passions in life, as a licenced pilot, is shooting fine art aerial landscapes and ground based landscapes. I recently exhibited my series, “Post Apocalypse” and before that, “Over Eyre”. I also shoot commercial aerials for The Port Of Melbourne, Melbourne Water and Santos to name some of the largest.
I consider myself privileged to have had a life as a photographer and I look forward to more exciting chapters in the story.
