On Saturday morning, after shooting at dawn, and a leisurely breakfast, we take off for a low level flight to the “Dig Tree” – the actual tree under which the famous Australian explorers Burke & Wills expired while waiting for a very late rescue party. Next, the Birdsville Races, the Melbourne Cup of the outback, a modern-day spectacle of horses, racing, dust and lots and lots of very interesting outback people. There are many wonderful photographic opportunities to be had.
On Saturday afternoon we fly South, past lake Eyre, to Arkaroola in the Flinders ranges of South Australia.
Early on Sunday morning, to catch the early light, we depart in a special four wheel drive vehicle for the famous Arkaroola Ridgetop Tour. This drive takes us deep into amazing, ruggedly beautiful, mountain country, culminating in a cuppa right at the top of the ranges while we view the stunning panorama.
Just after take-off from Balcanoona airstrip on our final leg back to Melbourne, we fly over the amazing Lake Frome, a very large salt lake. We then settle back and watch the ochre tones of the outback transition to green and watch the clouds change colour as the sun sets as we arrive back in Melbourne.
The all inclusive price for this amazing outback adventure is only $4599!
What a privilege it was to be a part of a photoescapades trip. Imagine being able to climb on board a luxury plane, being flown to remote destinations that many people will never get to in their lives and having some of the most amazing scenery just waiting for you to photograph it. We worked on composition and I was able to improve my photos in such a big way. Of course having some of the most spectacular sites to photograph helped enormously. I love Arkaroola. Ric is extremely generous with his time and knowledge and makes sure that everyone gets out of the trip what they wanted. I was there to learn like a sponge but others were there to take in the scenery and the social event of it all as well as get some breath taking photos. Ric easily fulfilled each participants needs. I’m in for future trips!
